Barbados

Barbados
The warm breeze blowing off the hot black jagged rocks
Heated by the sweltering sun high above the island
The grainy white sand burning our feet making us run even faster
The clear blue water licking the hot sand inviting us closer
The cool but warm embrace of the ocean quenching our scorched skin
The clear-green fish darting away from our quick jerky movements
The soft wet sand giving way beneath us
The coral and sea glass in millions of tints and distorted shapes
Pushed towards the beach from depths and oceans miles away
The thick green trees casting jade shade under the sun
The squeals of laughter from the boats spraying water
White foam dissipating as quickly as it is made by the speeding motors
The caves cut out of the rock walls of the island by years of tide
Trillions of shades of flowers speckling the trees
Little white sand crabs running quickly away scaring us just as much as we scared them
Leaves covering the searing sand making a layer of protection across the coarse concrete bridge
Smooth rocks under clear water dotted with seaweed
Reflecting the orange glow of the sun making its way below the horizon
Purple, pink, orange, and dark blue clouds outlined by the fading sun
Vivid, glittering, yellow light skipping over the black waves
Bright white stars look so close you want to reach up and touch them
Sparkling in the blinding black night
The moon the most illuminated thing out, guiding our way through the sand and back home
The laughs floating into the night air through the house that can be heard before their sources are seen
Having a gravitational pull on our tired worn out bodies who want to be with them
At last the steps ground into the sand seem to sparkle from the moons bright light
Beaconing us to the grass above them
The icy water rinsing the sand off our dry grainy bodies and clothes
The warm dry towels drinking the cold dripping water off
The freezing marble floor tickling our feet as we move from the warm night and into the air conditioned house
Our eyes quickly adjusting to the bright lights of the huge room
Our feet slapping lazily against the hard stone stairs
The chilly, soaking wet cloth dragging against our bodies and the feel of cozy dry fabric taking its place
The cold air rushing to follow us once more out into the warm dark night
The cold smooth feel of the metal under our hands as we lean over the balcony to wish loved ones good night
The silky floor seeming to melt under our exhausted feet as we drag ourselves to bed
The rough vinyl fabric rubbing against our bare arms, calves, and feet as we settle into the balcony chairs
The warm soft breeze kissing our faces goodnight as we close our eyes and drift off into sleep
